We do not stop playing because we are growing old, we grow old becausewe stop playing. "Play" is not merely a way of getting the children out from under a mother's feet. lt must be an integral part of growing up, of discovering the fun in the world and joy in being "me".
Playways, a group dedicated to educating young people through story and song, have now put some of their most popular material on record so that it can be enjoyed in the home as well as in a theatre environment.
One hesitates to use the word "educating" for such subtle and catchy ways of presenting counting songs, of capturing all the drama of "The Fox and the Geese" or "The Three Billy Goats Gruff", or of joining in the pretence of being a car, and a cat and a hiccup.
The two ladybirds are obviously true South African meisies,
and the bat (not Batman) in the simple tale of Day and Night, could have his home nowhere but the Transvaal.
"Somebody Come and Play" sing Clara, Ian, Megan, David
and Jacky, and that is just what a great many young listeners from 5
to 8 are going to delight in doing. - MARILYN JENKINS,
