Fans of Andries Botha and Afrikaans rock are in for a mid-year Christmas present with the
release of the gifted musician's long-awaited new solo album.
Welkom in die Wêreld is destined to be one of the top Afrikaans releases of 2009, setting a new standard in rock records with its line-up of original songs that more than highlight Botha's exceptional guitar skills.
Indeed, it's as one of South Africa's most accomplished and revered guitar players that Botha has most recently been in the spotlight: he's part of Steve Hofmeyr's live band and is currently working on the singer's Neil Diamond shows, having previously worked with Hofmeyr on his Kris Kristofferson live tribute shows and records and several other projects.
But Wat Is Die Wêreld? is Botha's turn to step into the solo spotlight, with an album that reveals his enviable skills in the best possible way.
The album features 12 tracks - six reworked songs off his debut solo album Blou Planeet and six brand new tracks. Of the rerecorded songs from his debut, 'Wat Is Die Wêreld?' is likely to be the first to radio to remind Botha's existing fans and newcomers to his quality music that he's back - and better than ever.
